State Senate returning to work next week

Pantagraph:
Under pressure to take action on a sweeping package of ethics reforms, Senate President Emil Jones is calling lawmakers back to Springfield next week.

The pre-election call to action was a reversal for Jones, who had been adamant about staying away from the Capitol until after the Nov. 4 election.

In addition to dealing with tougher campaign finance rules, the Senate’s return could open the door for discussions on keeping state parks and historic sites open, as well as restoring money Gov. Rod Blagojevich cut to numerous social service programs.

In a separate move that left many lawmakers shaking their heads, Blagojevich also issued a call Thursday for a special session to start at 1 pm Monday.

It was unclear whether the Senate would meet Monday and then return later in the week.
Rich Miller of The Capitol Fax writes this post to clear up some confusion about a special session vs. a regular session.
