In addition to the Sticker sales, our office still fielded Constituent requests and complaints. I spoke with many of our neighbors who visited our office today, about Ward issues ranging from neighbors refusing to cut the weeds behind their homes; the status of the 71st Redevelopment (when it will continue east); the new expanded Young Library construction; public safety; to the recycling cart program slated to start in the Ward in the fall. So while it may have appeared that we were behind locked doors unaccessible, that was not the case. You know the job of alderman is an admirable one. Even without the general reputation it carries at times. I shouldn't have to say.
Still I recognize that perhaps unlike cities without a ward system Aldermen are literally on the front lines. If a citizen has no where else to go it could be an Aldermen they might seek help from. I can only imagine that it's demanding and while it's said to be a part time position surely they work like they have a full-time job.
There's a lot more I can say about that, but I'll save that for another time.
There will be one more tidbit on Wednesday. And thanks again to Ald. Lyle for allowing me to post her email.
