Transportation Committee Chairman Tom Allen (38th) plans to call CTA President Ron Huberman and Board Chairwoman Carole Brown to appear before his committee, amid the threat of fare hikes and service cuts.
"There needs to be more input from elected officials regarding CTA initiatives," Allen said. "They need to tell us about it before we read about it in the paper.
"Are we adding cars, taking seats out, raising fares, laying off people? What's our plan? Is the Circle Line alive? Are we building the Block 37 superstation? Are we doing double-deckers? Are we gonna start flying cars over people?"
Huberman could not be reached for comment. Asked if she had a problem with the hearing, Brown said, "Not at all. We have been in contact with Ald. Allen. ... We are just looking forward to being able to schedule that."
The alderman wants to know what the CTA is doing to accommodate new riders tied to rising gas prices, what "contingency plans" it has to deal with the "$250 million abandoned superstation at Block 37" -- mothballed after $100 million in cost overruns -- and whether there is a "master plan" to "redesign or reinvent" existing rail lines and stations.

Ald. Allen wants to talk to CTA leaders
Aside from the saber rattling at least someone on the city council is taking an interest on the CTA:
