Illinois employers continued to shed jobs in September, leaving the state with an unemployment rate of 6.9%.Something that should be tackled by anybody who aspires to be governor in 2010. Perhaps it would help more if there was an environment in municipalities and counties encouraging increased business activity.
That figure, released Friday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, was the third-highest jobless rate seen in Illinois since August 2003. September’s seasonally adjusted rate was slightly lower than August, which produced a jobless rate of 7.3%.
Illinois continued to have a higher unemployment rate than the national average, which hit a five-year high of 6.1% in September.
