Fourth-quarter Bears’ collapses aren’t the only stinky thing at Soldier Field. This is worth a good read. Know the background of the owner of this firm that lost it's contract, Yvonne McGinnis.
Sixty thousand beer-swilling gridiron masochists create quite a mess. Someone has to tidy up after them. For nearly two decades, that’s been We’re Cleaning Inc., a tiny, minority-owned company that held the contract to sweep the aisles, swab out the johns and otherwise try to return the stadium to useable condition.
But now, We’re Cleaning has been dumped in the Chicago Park District’s trash can, abruptly replaced by another company with plenty of political clout. And therein lies a tale about how government in the Richard M. Daley era apparently still works.
Here’s what’s going on, as best I can tell — no thanks to the folks at the park district, who won’t answer the most basic of questions about the matter, even though millions of dollars of taxpayer funds are involved.
