Elgie Sims is sworn in as State Representative

You might have heard about this because Worlee posted about a reception for newly appointed State Rep. Elgie Sims on our FB page Friday. He replaced Constance Howard who was retiring after the end of her term next but retired suddenly before the end of her term last month. Here's an article from the Examiner:
Residents living in the Illinois’ 34th District, which includes the South Side of Chicago, got a new state representative on August 3.

Democratic nominee Elgie Sims, 41, was sworn into office on Aug. 3 to fill the remaining term of Democratic state Rep. Constance Howard, who abruptly resigned July 9. Howard was already set to retire January 2013 when her term would have expired.

Sims, who is running unopposed, will be sworn to a full, two-year term after the November election. For the time being though, Sims plans to get a head start addressing issues facing his South Side constituents.

“I am honored and humbled to have been chosen to complete the term of Representative Howard, who has done so much for Illinois,” Sims told Examiner.com. “There are issues going on in ‘our’ community that needs to be addressed immediately. Those issues are drugs, crime and better education for ‘our’ children.”

And residents use to going to Howard’s former office at 8727 S. State St. will not have to travel far to meet with Sims. He recently moved into her office along with state Sen. Donne Trotter (D-17th District).
