Sun-Times: CPD officer commits suicide; 3rd officer to take own life in 2 months

The Calumet district - HQ located in Pullman on 111th St - have suffered from sad losses. The Sun-Times talks about it:
The officer, a 54-year-old woman described by police as a “veteran” of the department, is the second member of the Chicago Police Department to take their own life in that parking lot since early July and the third Chicago police officer to commit suicide in the last two months.

She was found in her personal car and her name was not released as of Wednesday afternoon, according to police. The department said it was making counselors available to officers in the Calumet District, where the deceased officer was found.

“Crushing news for the department this morning as we grapple with the suicide of a veteran #ChicagoPolice officer who took her life inside her personal vehicle,” Guglielmi tweeted. “Please pray for this officer’s family and fellow officers of @ChicagoCAPS05.”
...
The Calumet District already suffered through two other officer deaths over the summer.

On July 9, Officer Brandon Krueger, a 36-year-old officer of five years, shot himself in the head in the Calumet District’s parking lot. Two days later, Officer Vinita Williams, 47, fell unconscious in the station and died a short time later.
As the police seeks more recruits this fall, let's recognize how difficult a job being a police officer really is. We have to treat them better than it seems we have been recently.

Crime announcement from 6th District Chicago Police HQ

We recently got this crime alert from the GCA. They want a good turnout at the court located at the 5th District Police HQ:
4 Mar 13

Hello 006th Police District Residents:

The Chicago Police Department recently concluded a narcotics enforcement operation targeting violent street gangs in the area of 600-700 E. 79th.

Approximately, two weeks ago, during the course an inspection of a commercial establishment located on the 600 block east 79th (District 6), two investigators from the Department of Business Affairs were assaulted by employees of that same location.

One investigator was held down by three employees of the business while another unidentified individual verbally threatened to shoot the investigator in the head.

Three individuals were subsequently arrested by the Police and charged.

We are asking everyone to take time to attend court with us on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 1:00 pm at 727 E. 111th Street.

We are asking that you please meet us first at 12:30 pm at the 5th Police District in the Community Room at 727 E. 111th Street and we will walk next door.

With your presence we are letting the Judge know we are concerned about what is going on in our community.

If you cannot make court, send someone else in your place please call 312.745.3641 or e-mail me back with any questions.
There was an e-mail attached with the message Beverly.Taylor-Williams @ chicagopolice.org. Feel free to utilize that if you have an questions.

Ugly Chicago: The Art of Squatting

Squatting is defined as to occupy illegally an empty, abandoned, or condemned house, building, apartment, etc. It is now a dangerous fad in Chicago and especially on the South and West side that has to stop. It has caused death of those who are squatters and those whose serve and protect. It was the report of squatters that sent Firefighters Edward Stringer and Corey Ankum inside a firey open vacant warehouse that ended their lives. Numerous fires, injuries and other crimes have been caused by squatters. The illegal utility connections, open fires harboring animals and no running water create unsafe situations While I understand the economic hardships a number of individuals have suffered, the hijacking of property cannot and should not be tolerated. The property pictured 66 E. 95th Street has been a problem plagued eyesore in the West Chesterfield community for sometime. The city of Chicago has boarded up this property numerous times and the Chicago Police Department has been called out numerous times to empty the property as well as break up fights between the squatters. Community residents have asked for the property to be demolished but the City of Chicago process prolongs what appears to be necessary. Both the former and current Alderman have asked the Chicago Police Department to place this property on special attention. My friends at The Sixth Ward Blog have been following this property for quite a while and it seems to get worse than better.

Now it appears some unscrupulous individual has decided to rent the property to a family. They stated that they were going to fix the property up but all I saw was an abandon van with Wisconsin license plate #301-SCE parked in the back yard. Per public records the property has not changed hands so the statement is questionable at best. So hopefully, we do not have to walk or drive down 95th and see this eyesore because the City of Chicago will do what is necessary.
