The World is Yours daycare

We've talked about the positive aspects of more day care centers in the neighborhood.

But isn't the phrase "The world is yours" popularized by the movie Scarface, starring Al Pacino? And haven't the ganster rappers taken on Scarface as a role model?
i remember even Master P mentioning Scarface on "Dancing With The Stars", of all places.
While parents might recognize the phrase, is that really a good association for a day care center? Aren't these day cares supposed to be places where we develop kids who will not be attracted to thug life?

"Just Like Home" Daycare is now open

We've talked about this daycare before, but it is NOW open (and has been for several weeks now).

They have been working on it for over a year.

They are located at 301 E. 79th - the corner of 79th at Prairie.

I talked with Mr. & Mrs. Williams of neighboring Williams Hydro Plants, and they heard that the planned opening day was March 3. However, the owners of the daycare have had problems with getting it open.

Before you get alarmed, note that this seems to be the norm for day care facilities.

Another nearby potential center is Project Org. They are located across the street from Sears on 79th, in a white building, with a playground in the back. Currently they are using the facility for various therapies, from autism developmental therapy to playgroups. It's an excellent facility, with many resources for the children to grow socially, mentally and physically. (They even have a playground which was built through the KABOOM not-for-profit organization) When our daughter was going there, the director had talked about starting a daycare.

The current problems for Project Org include having to tear down a perfectly fine chain link fence for Black Iron rod fences mandated by the city. This costs lots of unnecessary money.

We wish Just Like Home the best as they begin to serve our community.

We would love to have more input on this place when it's available.

Abundant businesses in Chatham (positive)

Last week, we had a post talking about what community residents thought were businesses Chatham had too many of , and undesirable.

I wanted to briefly mention some businesses that we have an abundance of, but are actually good for a community.

- Dry Cleaners: which indicate a number of professionals who want to look good for society

- Day Care / Chid Care centers: indicating many working parents, who are trying to make sure their kids are safe, while they are hard at work, possibly commuting long distances.

i think having a number of these businesses are good, as long as they follow the best practices & guidelines fo their industry as well as the community. Issues such as parking (where people are dropping off & picking up, while the businesses don't have their own parking spaces) are things to be aware of and should be addressed proactively.

Am i missing anything else?
