The Cook County Sheriff's office is investigating a hit and run accident involving a Cook County car. Patrice Williams was the victim. But, what makes her case so unusual is the car that hit her is owned by Cook County. It happened at the corner of 91st and Parnell last April. Patrice was in her car about to leave for church, when a vehicle registered to Cook County's Adult Probation Department shot through the intersection, hit another car, which struck her car.Another negative story out of Cook County. This on top of the sales tax that was raised yesterday!
Witnesses say the man driving the County car quickly gathered his personal belongings, including a bible, then called for help on his two-way radio. One witness says the driver, "Started easing away little by little. Then the next thing we know, he just disappeared."
And now, no one seems to know who was driving the car, even though they have the municipal plate number. Jesse Reyes runs the Adult Probation Department. When asked how he could not know who was driving the car, Reyes said, "Well we don't. We have never had anything like this happen before. So it is as much a mystery to us."
Most of the County Cars controlled by adult probation are parked in a chained and secure lot on the near west side. But, the car that was taken was actually parked outside the compound across the street right next to the agencies own building. And this is where it gets even more intriguing. According to Reyes, the car was last signed out and returned two days before the accident. Reyes went on to add, "What I do know is that it was not hot-wired so apparently the person had a key. How they came about to have that key is still unknown."
