I wish I had a much better picture without the back end of this Buick in the shot. There was a steady stream of traffic here on 95th Street on a Monday afternoon. There is a purpose to this pic.
Within say the last couple of years in this storefront there was an ice cream shop. Never thought to patronize this business before apparently they closed that location. It was in the storefront in about the far left of this picture.
I remember a couple or so years ago I walked by and there was a big glass and some fake ice cream in this glass. Almost advertising their business although they're not their anymore. There was even a website for it, but I wish I could tell you if I could find it now!
There was another business, a grocery apparently. Obviously it closed. In fact there is a payphone right in the area where you would have entered the store. Can't even use the payphone because it's locked behind a gate.
It's more likely that instead of patronizing this long time store and the ice cream shop I would walk right by and spend money at either Wendy's or Popeye's right at the corner of King Drive. Well the grocery was a long time business here while the ice cream seemed to have been a recent tenant but a quick loss! In fact the awning reveals that a tax service once used this storefront and was probably active during tax season.
In that building the only operating business there currently is a hair salon right in the middle between both of the vacant storefronts. I do wonder what happened to that grocery store and whether or not it contributed to the problem of finding healthy fruits and vegetable in this food desert.
