Shooting near the 79th Street L stop

WBBM-TV:
Police were notified of someone shot in the leg about 12:30 p.m. near the 7900 block of South State Street near the station, according to a Gresham District sergeant. Upon arriving, they found a male victim shot.

The Chicago Fire Department transported a man to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin McGregor.

Afterward, a Chicago Police officer fired his gun, but did not hit anyone with a bullet, during the ensuing chase and attempt to capture suspects.
According to this report two suspects are in custody.

The 17-year-old victim was shot in the lower body just after noon near the 79th Street Station, police said; his injuries were not thought to be life threatening. The teen, whose identity was not released, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

It was unclear where the teen was when the gunfire rang out or whether he was the target.

Two male suspects were arrested by responding officers minutes later in the 7800 block of South Wabash Avenue, Calumet Area detectives said. A gun was recovered.

  1. According to Commander Johnson of the 6th District, a robbery with a gun was occuring on the 79th St. L and 2 undercover police officers were on the platform at the time. The officers chased the offenders and arrested both at 78th & Michigan.

  2. That particular stop along with 63rd and 69th is pretty bad, they sell drugs in the open likes its no problem. I really hate those three stations!!!!!!
