The new mayor of Detroit, Ken Cockrel Jr., was sworn in Friday and he told citizens there that "It's our time to breathe life back into the city.”Anyone notice a trash problem around neighborhood businesses? There are those areas of the ward that might certainly need a clean-up. Especially if you walk along 95th street.
The Associated Press said "He received loud applause from the standing-room-only crowd when he implored residents and business owners to improve the city’s cleanliness by sweeping storefronts and clearing trash from parking lots.
“I call on all Detroiters to do what we were taught to do as children: That is to pick up after ourselves.”
Why can't we demand that shopkeepers do just that in the 6th Ward? Residents take such pride in keeping their homes and lawns up, and then when we hit the commercial streets ... disaster.
This should not be. Let's demand that the commercial areas look as good as the residential neighborhoods.

What's wrong with citizens reporting the business to 311 and if they patronize the shop, giving the manager a copy of the article. That would let them know that the neighbors don't appreciate the condition of the business. In fact if they list them here, we can generate the negative publicity that actually costs them profits and then I bet they'll clean up their act.
ReplyDeleteAs for the individuals, the City and Chicago Public Schools need to reinstitute a major Keep Chicago Clean Campaign!
P.S. A late post to the writer who says there are illegal wall signs up. Identify the lcations and maybe something will get done.
