Chicago school officials delay vote on gay high school

Tribune:
Chicago Public Schools officials said Friday they will put off for a month voting on a plan to build the city's first high school aimed at gay youths.

Schools Chief Executive Officer Arne Duncan said the proposal won't go before the school board until its Nov. 19 meeting. The planned School for Social Justice Pride Campus had been scheduled for a final vote Wednesday.

The Pride Campus plan has attracted national attention, and earlier this week, Duncan met with local ministers who blasted the plan. Duncan denied the delay was the result of the meeting.
There was approval initially to build the school and while the school is designed for gay youths it will be open to all students.
