Capitol Fax: New hybrid Chicago school board plan floated

I found this update at the CapFax yesterday on where a new hybrid school board proposal for Chicago is in Springfield.

Basically 10 members appointed by the mayor, 10 members elected by the people and the mayor would appoint the chairman of the Board of Education. Elections would take place as municipal elections for city offices such as mayor and Aldermen. And an outside commission would be appointed to look at this hybrid situation to issue a report which could possibly trigger Springfield into re-evaluating the arrangement.

I found this video from WBBM-TV which shows a protest outside of CPS headquarters on Madison Street Wednesday morning. They're calling on Senate President Don Harmon to bring the proposal for a fully-elected school board to a vote, presumably instead of any hybrid school board. [VIDEO]

Also noted that the current session of the General Assembly in Springfield will end on May 31st.
