83rd St. Food Mart: CLOSED

After months of complaints of illegal tobacco sales, sale of tobacco to minors, loitering and alleged marijuana sales, the store is permanently CLOSED. The owners have  moved out their inventory and fixtures.

Per the Alderman, the store owes the City of  Chicago thousands of dollars for code violations. The store was previously closed because they were fined $10,000 for code violations.

A big thanks to the residents of the 8000-8200 blocks of King Drive,Vernon and Eberhart, Alderman Roderick T. Sawyer and his staff, the Chicago Police Department and all the residents of Chatham for their vigilance to rid the community of the problem business.

St. Dorothy Catholic Church

I was walking by St. Dorothy Catholic church and snapped these phots. What struck me was how "un-Catholic" it sounded...or at least an adapted Catholicism like the Faith Community of St. Sabinas.
What struck me on the signs:
  • Healing Services (like a Pentecostal church)
  • Liturgical Dance (not what you think of when you say Catholic)
  • Faith Community (rather than parish)
  • "Black Jesus"
I am certainly not criticizing these things.  Rather, I think these things are great. But it makes me interested to find out mor eabout the churhc, and how they relate to not only the Chatham community, but especially other Christian churches.

Does anyone have any other information or stories about the church?

We would love to hear them!

Police seek missing 15-year-old South Side girl

Just saw this story on the Chicago Breaking News website ...very concerning for me, as the missing girl lives literally 2 blocks from my home.
Police are asking for help finding a 15-year-old South Side girl who has not been seen by her family since she left for her charter high school on Friday.

Brianna "Bri-Bri" Lacey, who lives near 80th Street and South Eberhart Avenue, left for school Friday morning and has not been seen by her family since, according to a police alert issued today. She had been headed to Chicago International Charter School's Longwood Academy Campus, 1309 W. 95th St., police said.

Lacey spends time at locations near her home and also near 105th Street and Yates Avenue, according to police. She also goes by the name Brianna Wright.

Lacey was last seen wearing school clothes: gray pants, a navy blue polo shirt, a navy blue sweater, a brown coat, and black gym shoes.

She is black, stands about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighs about 110 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes, with a light complexion. She also has pierced ears.

Anyone with information regarding Lacey's whereabouts
should call the Calumet Detective Area's Special Victims Unit at 312-747-8274.
