Alderman Sawyer's office is looking for people interested in joining his "Dog Park" committee.Here's more information from the Chicago Park District on "Dog friendly areas". Here's a page for creating dog friendly areas.
Several area residents have expressed an interest in creating one for our area.

Two Shitsu (Shih Tzu) Dogs Found!The pic to the left is an example and not of the found dogs!
A neighbor who lives on the 8200 St. Lawrence block found two Shitsu dogs in her yard. She would like to find the owners. Right now, she has possession of the dogs.
If someone you know is looking for these two dogs and wants to claim them, please contact me.
I will pass the info along. It won't hurt if the owner sends pet names so we can verify how the dogs respond or photos.
Just found this craigslist posting via Everyblock5 pound male yorkie. Black with shades of brown and gray facial hair. His name is Friday. Friday has been microchipped. He was last seen on 73rd and Maryland.If you have no idea what a "yorkie" dog looks like click this link from Wikipedia. I'm not going to post an example pic because well I don't want anyone thinking the pic of a "yorkie" is Friday himself. :P
A microchip in a dead dog helped lead investigators to the woman who left it and two others to perish in a South Side home that was foreclosed upon twice, police said Saturday night.
Carla Smith, 44, of the 8100 block of South Shore Drive was charged with a number of animal abuse counts today after a neighbor had alerted authorities earlier this week to a putrid smell and a swarm of flies outside the home in the 8200 block of South Rhodes Avenue.

Smith, who turned herself in Saturday, was charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals, misdemeanor cruelty to animals and violation of animal owners duties.
Police said the Animal Crimes team was able to identify Smith by information on a microchip implanted in one of the deceased dogs, as well as through talks with neighbors.
Smith is scheduled to appear in court Sunday.
Aldermen promoting an ordinance to mandate the spaying or neutering of all Chicago cats and dogs expect a little help Tuesday from Bob Barker, the retired host of “The Price is Right” TV game show.Well if you read the whole piece there is some opposition. If I was a pet owner I would think it should by my decision as to whether or not I should spade or neuter my pets. Although I can appreciate what they're trying to do here.
Barker is an animal activist who used to sign off his show by encouraging people to have their pets spayed or neutered.
He is set to speak at a hearing before two committees considering the ordinance, proposed by Aldermen Edward Burke (14th) and Virgina Rugai (19th). Under it, all cats and dogs would have to be spayed or neutered by the time they are six months old.
The goal is to reduce the number of homeless dogs and cats on city streets and help prevent random, unprovoked attacks, the aldermen said. Neutering pets reduces their aggressiveness, according to a study they cited.
Burke and Rugai introduced the bill last week after a pack of five pit bulls severely injured a South Side woman.
The aldermen said the proposal also targets gang members who operate dog-fighting rings.
