Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has agreed to a special session on education funding next week. That's after members of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus demanded it Tuesday. The second special session this year.
State Senator James Meeks of Chicago's Far South Side says school funding isn't equal in Illinois. And that has to change now.
MEEKS: School starts September 2nd and we are trying to get this matter solved before school starts. We don't want to send our children back to schools with no resources another year.
Meeks has threatened student boycotts and protests during the first week of school. He says he's continuing to aggressively organize them. In a statement, the governor's office says he's committed to boosting education funding. Blagojevich has planned two days of special sessions next week. The second day is to discuss a state capital funding plan.
