Aldermen criticized Aviation Department officials today for not properly tracking about 450 leases at the city's two airports.
Ald. Edward Burke (14th) also questioned Commissioner Richard Rodriguez about why the city has gone almost two years without a new contract for concessions at the International terminal of O'Hare International Airport.
The previous contract—-held by a company that has been linked to Jeremiah Joyce, a confidant of Mayor Richard Daley--has been put out to bid three times. But no winning bidder has been announced, so the old contract is being reauthorized on a month-to-month basis, Rodriguez said.
With the first two bids, no competitive contractor emerged, and the third, which was broken into a smaller sets, is under evaluation, he said.
Concessions at O’Hare have long been a source of city controversy, with allegations that favored contractors got sweetheart deals and others falsely claimed to be owned by minorities or women.
