A man whose family pleaded for him to surrender in the Sunday night slaying of 17-year-old Kiyanna Salter turned himself in to police today at a Chicago church where his mother was waiting.
Earlier today, the man's mother, Patricia Wilson, made a new plea at the Southwest Side church for him to turn himself in to authorities.
"This is getting out of hand now, and I know you've been watching the news," Wilson said. "I know you've seen me on there [the news]. I need you, baby, to turn yourself in."
Wilson said she and the rest of her family have had no contact with her son since she went public with her plea Tuesday night. The Tribune is not identifying the man because he has not been charged with any crime.
