Chicago radio legend Herb Kent has been on the radio since his deejay debut in 1944 at the age of 16. Now 80, Kent is still playing the “dusties” twice weekly and teaching broadcasting at Chicago State University. Like a cat with nine lives, Kent’s book recalls his many brushes with fate including being run over by a car as a child, nearly driving off a cliff, surviving cancer, and battling drug addiction – set against a backdrop of the stars of the musical world including James Brown, Smokey Robinson and the Jackson 5.
