Annual “Souls of Black Folk” Oratorical Contest - Feb. 27th

This picture was taken from the 2009 Oratorical Contest at Harlan Community Academy with special guest Sen. Roland Burris who was recently installed at that time to President Obama's former US Senate seat!

This year's edition will be held at Harlan on Saturday, February 27th @ 9652 S. Michigan Avenue betwee 12 Noon to 4:00 PM.

In fact there is a write-up in the Alderman's newsletter from January:

Applications will be accepted from students grades Kindergarten-12th. Students are expected to recite an original poem, short story or a published piece from memory. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Winners. Each participant will receive a certificate and Goody Bag.

Parents & volunteers are welcome!
Please contact Francine Smith for details at the 6th Ward Service Office
406 E. 75th St., 60619 (773) 846-7006

This is a FREE event.
Anyone out there interested in going? I might attempt to make this one. Let's see what our young people can do on stage! At that get to see the NEW Harlan Community Academy!
