CBS Chicago: Large Crowds Show Up In Chicago Loop, Prompting Police Response

[VIDEO] I got caught up in this on Saturday night. Thankfully I was away from the action as I saw a line of Chicago Police vehicles along Washington Blvd from State to Wabash and then to Michigan Avenue at least. It appeared the focus was near the Christmas tree in Millenium Park.

Unfortunately the young people get a bum rap especially if they're from the west and south sides of the city. I have yet to hear an estimate of how large these crowds were. Were there hundreds or thousands? And why were so many gathered in downtown at such a late hour about 10 PM at night? Was all of this planned?

This photo was what I saw on Saturday night before I got on the train. Blue lights on Washington as far as the eyes could see. When I was on the red line platform below heard a lot of noise and young people were waiting for a train with us being a bit loud. Thankfully no more than that.

2020 was a tumultus summer with the coronavirus pandemic and then the unrest with rioting in the downtown area in May and then looting that occurred downtown in August after a police shooting incident in Englewood. At least this time it was noted that there was no looting and these large crowds were only noted for socializing more than anything. One eyewitness in the above CBS Chicago video reported a fight although no arrests were made in this.
