Tuesday is election day

However, you can still early vote if you're still concerned about the pandemic. Or if you choose a Main-In ballot you can drop it off at an early voting location. Concerned Citizens of Chatham has all the city's early voting locations & there are drop off places at city libraries also.

I shared a listing of early voting locations earlier this month where I list locations in Wards 6, 9, and 21. And as far as local libraries listing in Worlee Glover's posting I will share some nearby ones you can drop off your mail in ballot. It doesn't include that new Whitney Young Library Branch, unfortunately.

Why did I place Woodson library in bold. It's a very convenient location by public transit or even by car. Not to say the others listed are less convenient as your circumstances may be different.

Just bear in mind polls are open on Tuesday, Nov. 3rd, 2020.

Uptown Update: Share the Warmth! Donate Winter Gear To Our 46th Ward Students!

I know outside of the scope of this blog, but I never minded sharing the charitable aspects seen around the city especially from the good folks in Uptown. And of course someone in our local schools on the south side also don't have winter gear as we head into winter.

If you know of any coat drives in the community send us an e-mail, a tweet, or even let us know on our ig page. We'd love to hear about it.

Join The Sixth Ward blog as we celebrate the birthdays of Levois and JP! The Hobbit's opening night is actually on our birthdays (December 14), and we want to see it at Chatham 14 , at 87th & the Dan Ryan (210 W. 87th)


We will make a special presentation 15 minutes before the movie starts.  So buy tickets for the show at the box office, but make sure you are at the theater 1/2 hour before show time!

We will have a table where we will will share info on the blog. Please stop by BEFORE the show and say hi! We would love to meet our readers (not just from the area, but our blog colleagues such as Uptown Update and others)

The price of the ticket is the same as normal, $9.50. 

Chatham 14 does NOT do online ticketing...however you can buy tickets at the box office up to 1 week before showtime!

To summarize:

1. Be at Chatham 14 no later than 6:30 pm
2. Buy a ticket for the 7:00 show 
3. Stop by our table to say hi
4. Be in the actual theater by 6:45pm, where we'll make some short announcements before they show the trailers..

If this goes well, we'll plan another event for when the new Star Trek movie opens May 2013.

Acording to that list, we are # 46 on the list of Illinois Political blogs. That list is based on rankings by Alexa, and then factoring out all non-political blogs, or those sponsored by a company.

And according to the Alexa service , this blog is # 9,027,196

We actually beat out long time political columnist Russ Stewart.

Curiously, the Uptown Update is not on that list.

Just wondering...

Why does Cricket Hill (on the North Side, east of Uptown) have so many movies (6 movies! 3 definitely for kids, 3 more geared for adults)?

Why do we have the same movie playing twice in our area?

A second thought on negative comments.

My own personal comment on Saturday's blog. It was an anonymous commenter with some racist statements.

Now it's one thing to not agree with what's posted. But we ask you to not resort to attacks . Also, not being anonymous also shows some conviction to your community, that you're a real person who can stand behind their comments.

Those aforementioned comments are the real views of a FEW people in our community. I heard similar statements in meeting of the WIM (Wabash Indiana Michigan) Block Club. HOWEVER, they are clearly not the thoughts of the MAJORITY of the community. (A WIM officer, after the comments were made, was visibly agnry, and went to address that commenter after the meeting). I have met too many people in the ward to know such comments are out of place here.

Other communities might thrive on anonymous commenters attacking a certain point of view, but we'd like to show Chicago how intelligent & reasonable the people of the 6th Ward are.

Chatham had a community of people who were "haters"(and in that case, left the community entirely). That's one part of our community's history we don't need to re-live.

We DO need to talk about the future...the WIM meeting empasized in their advertising that Chatham is a middle-class neighborhood, implying that Wal-Mart is low class....maybe they had the option of not having it before. But in today's economy? They might want to re-think that theory. Are all the Dollar stores & convenience stores in the neighborhood that much better than a Wal Mart?

Let's discuss, and have differing opinions if we must, but let's also respect each other, and hear each other's heart.
