A Look At Illinois' Democratic Superdelegates

Channel 2 has a story about these superdelegates. These officials might be the ones who might determine the Democratic Presidential nominee and they're largely unelected in the party heirarchy:
Sen. Barack Obama's getting more support from Democratic superdelegates, including four additional endorsements Wednesday.

However, there are many still uncommitted superdelegates and some are major names right here in Chicago.

CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports when the political pundits say the superdelegates could cast the deciding votes on the convention floor, they're talking about people like Darlena Williams-Burnett, Chief Deputy for the Cook County Recorder of Deeds.

"It's daunting sometimes when you think about the impact it could have on the nation," she said.

Burnett is one of 795 super delegates across of the nation. About 30 are from Illinois. Their votes are important because neither candidate has enough regular delegates to win the nomination.

Unlike regular delegates, superdelegates don't have to make a commitment until they get to the convention floor. But some of them, like Burnett have already decided. For her, it's Obama.

"He is our favorite son, but if I didn't feel his message was important I wouldn't be supporting him," she said.
Well an interesting event in the history of American politics since either 1968 or 1972, a contested convention where nothing is totally scripted. Especially the part where the nominee is already determined. You might want to check out C-Span come late July or early August sometime. Things might just be exciting.

Although to be sure Obama is very likely to be the Democratic nominee for President.
