Ill. credit unions help with college aid

For those of you who knows someone who might need help with funding their college education from AP:
Authorities say eight Illinois credit unions are stepping up to plug college funding gaps wrought by the credit crunch for student tuition aid.

Governor Rod Blagojevich says the credit unions are investing $100 million worth of securities to fund new Stafford loans for Illinois students.

Stafford loans have a 6.8% interest rate and are available to students without a credit check. Blagojevich says the loans will be available to all state college students seeking aid.
This program would offer $20,000 in Stafford loans for Illinois college students.
