Board of Ed to consider new school proposals

Chit-Town Daily News:
The Chicago Board of Education will consider proposals for a 13 new schools at its monthly meeting tomorrow.

The schools that will be reviewed by the board were picked from 88 proposals submitted under Mayor Richard M. Daley‘s Renaissance 2010 project, which calls for opening 100 new schools by 2010.

Chicago Public Schools spokesman Malon Edwards says 58 of the proposals came from new design teams, including school-management firms and teams of teachers and administrators at three city high schools.

All but one of the proposed schools would open next fall. A 13th, The Noble Street Charter School-Osborn College Prep campus, would open in 2010.

Originally, the board was to consider 18 new school proposals tomorrow. But last week, CPS officials chose to defer approval for many campuses due to open in 2010.

Five of those schools will come before the board in November, including the “gay friendly“ Social Justice High School, Pride Campus. Two public hearings were held in conjunction with Social Justice High School, resulting in mostly positive feedback.
Want to go see the CPS in action, the board meeting is open to the public at 125 S. Clark St. Be there between 8AM to 9AM to sign up to speak. The public commenting will start at 10:30AM and the regular meeting itself starts at 13:30PM.
