1. More garbage cans near bus stops, businesses. Let's clean up the ward. Start an anti-litter campaign.Perhaps I'll bring up a few goals later, but if anyone else has any ideas email the blog or write a comment. :)
2. Investigate repaving the 87th Street entrance ramp off the Ryan. It's like driving on Swiss cheese. We pay taxes too.
3. Request more police presence at the 95th and 87th Street el stops. They both are havens for unsavory elements.
(If you e-mail us, let us know how you want to be identified, if at all.)
BTW, 95th can be trouble at times. I was up there a couple of weeks ago it was unfortunate that the police had to chase away those students who were just let out of Harlan.
To the special reader: Couldn't agree with you more. We've been working on businesses to get them to help us by regularly cleaning their areas. We've ordered more Wrought Iron garbage cans because the aluminum cans get stolen for recycling within a week of our setting them on City streets. The New Year however is cause for us to ramp up our efforts to get some sponsorship for a Litter Free 09 campaign in the schools, local newspapers, and depending on how much we can raise some billboards.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the off ramps, we'll pass this on to our State legislators for the ramp and to CDOT and Ald. Brookins for Lafayette.
I know that we've been working on the 95th St. El stop for a while now. Monthly we meet at Harlan with CTA security, the 5th & 6th Police Districts, the Abbott Park Supervisor, CPS Security and liasons to all 4 Agencies. We've had special traffic enforcement missions, special drug missions and additional police daily at dismissal time. We've got a new Police Camera on 95th and 1 on Michigan. The 95th St. stop gets students from Harlan, Corliss, Julian and Fenger as they take the trains back to their neighborhoods. It's a favorite spot for the thugs to hang out and jump these kids. So yes we have to work harder on these locations also.
Thanks for the nudge and I look forward to seeing more 09 resolutions for the Ward.
Happy New Year to all who visit the Sixth Ward Blog.
