Aldermen get to air gripes about snow

Clout St:
Mayor Richard Daley’s top aides for snow removal will face aldermen who have complained about the city’s handling of the winter’s first storms at a City Council hearing this morning.

Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Michael Picardi and Transportation Commissioner Thomas Byrne are set to appear before the council’s Transportation Committee, said the panel’s chairman, Ald. Thomas Allen (36th).

Snow has become a hot issue at City Hall since the Daley administration’s budget woes led the mayor to announce that city crews would take longer to clear Chicago’s side streets. That prompted some aldermen to call for more funding for snow plowing.
