Walker hired Quinn, Burris in ’ 70s

This column by Bernard Schoenburg offers a tidbit in the history of Gov. Pat Quinn and our very own US Senator Roland Burris:
The new governor of Illinois and the new member of the U.S. Senate from the state have something in common — both worked in the administration of former Gov. DAN WALKER.

And don’t think that Walker isn’t happy about it.

“I am just as pleased as can be that PAT QUINN is now the governor of Illinois,” Walker said last week from his home in Mexico.

“Pat, when I knew him, was a fine young man,” Walker said. “And his actions since then have demonstrated that he is of the quality that it takes to be governor of the state.”

Walker said he hopes the General Assembly will join Quinn in “doing their utmost to clean the name of the state of Illinois.”

U.S. Sen. ROLAND BURRIS, D-Ill., was director of the Department of General Services during Walker’s term as governor. The department was similar to what Central Management Services is today, handling functions such as printing, telecommunications, the vehicle fleet and management of office space.

“I anticipate that Roland will do a fine job as United States senator,” Walker said, “and that both of those men — Pat Quinn and Roland Burris — will bring great credit to the Land of Lincoln.”

I found this article on the Capitol Fax blog but here's another post there that offers roundups of news regarding Sen. Burris.
