Interesting crime reports

Oy!

9600 block S. Michigan Ave Other offense: Violating order of protection
Place: School, public grounds. Reported at 8 a.m. on March 5, 2009.

That almost reminds me of the time a few years ago that we were on the track and some dude, who I don't believe attended our school came up at random and started talking to a young lady. I think someone ran him off and I'm not sure that my classmate appreciated him walking up on her like he did. I don't know if it was our PE teachers or security.

Here's another one:

9600 block S. Michigan Ave Other offense: Telephone threat
Place: School, public building. Reported at 9 a.m. on March 4, 2009.

Double Oy!

Every now and then we hear about phony bomb threats made by students who don't want to take a test or at least don't want to come to school. Of course if this was true at Harlan I'm sure we'd know something. I wonder why this threat was directed towards the school.

At least in these instances we don't hear about possession of an illegal substance, assault, theft, vandalism, or battery to name some common crimes that get linked to Harlan's address.

BTW, the principal at Harlan address some of the crime reports and talks up Harlan. I should have posted this last month, but I get to post it now. When messaging me thru Contactify sometimes the message gets cut off it's probably better to just write in the blogs e-mail address and send a message that way. I may just include a link to that in the sidebar as well.
I just read your information on Harlan and I would like to share a few things with you. Yes it is true that there have been some unfortunate things to happen around. Harlan. But the fact is Harlan students have not been the ones causing the trouble. If you check with the police department you will see that students from other schools have come in our area looking for someone else. But isn't it strange that we tend to focus on the negatives.
Mr. Reginald Evans, Harlan's Principal, confirms that the young man featured in a story on CBS News was in fact a Harlan Community Academy student. You can go to this post and watch that clip there.

I do hope that Mr. Evans can keep in touch with the blog. If the general perception about Harlan is mostly negative, then I hope that perception can change. Especially if we know what's going on up there. Especially very positive developments. I hope that one day Harlan can be seen as more of an asset.
