Illegal immigrants will bankrupt state

A letter to the editor of the Daily Herald. Something to consider or even to discuss.
Now that the State of Illinois is again having major financial problems, Gov. Quinn is proposing an increase in state income tax, a $20 increase in license plate renewals and other assorted increases in order to avoid bankruptcy.

Here's a better idea, Gov. Quinn: How about refusing benefits to illegal immigrants like other states are doing, and saving the taxpayers of Illinois $2 billion to $3 billion dollars per year. Oklahoma passed such a law and it was upheld by the courts. Illegal immigrants are denied benefits, and are leaving that state. How about some compassion for the taxpaying citizens of Illinois who are trying to survive the economic times.

If not for the Democratic hold in the General Assembly, such a law would be enacted in our state. Until the people of Cook County come to their senses and elect representatives who actually care about American citizens instead of illegals, the citizens of Illinois will continue to suffer. It is also happening in California which is on the verge of bankruptcy. The United States cannot continue to support all the illegals coming into our country.

  1. To consider, and to dismiss. Illegal immigrants, for all their illegal status, still pay income, property, and sales taxes, and are entitled to the services which those taxes provide.
