Sen. Burris to hold Chicago fundraiser

LA Times:
Sen. Roland W. Burris (D-Ill.), the controversial appointee to the seat once held by President Obama, has scheduled for this weekend his first campaign fundraiser since taking office -- and a new financial report shows he could use some political donations.

Burris campaign officials on Thursday released a report showing that the senator raised $845 from January through March, and had $111,032 in debts incurred from travel expenses and from defending himself in ongoing ethics and perjury probes.

Burris never has been a prolific fundraiser during his decades in politics. And his first three months on the job have been focused on a Senate Ethics Committee investigation and a perjury probe over his testimony before the Illinois House panel that recommended impeaching then-Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich.
...
Hosted by several Chicago aldermen, a state senator and longtime supporters, Sunday's fundraiser in Chicago is expected to attract about 50 to 100 potential donors, organizers said.

"It is almost like a friend and family thing," said Ald. Freddrenna Lyle, one of the hosts. "I knew the senator incurred a huge, huge legal bill. He's a little behind" in terms of fundraising.

The Chicago Tribune reported last month that Burris has told colleagues he expects his legal costs to exceed $400,000. But Lyle said the money raised this weekend will go to Burris' campaign fund, not the legal defense fund he's hoping to create.
Well this was already touched upon yesterday but I would like to refer you to this article from FOX Chicago regarding Burris re-election chances. That is, should he decide to run to retain his Senate seat.
