Is this a re-election gimmick?Cook County Board President Todd Stroger, who faces re-election next year, floated the idea Tuesday of scaling back the major county sales tax increase he pushed through last year by a quarter of a penny.Stroger wants to cut the county's sales tax rate from 1.75 percent to 1.50 percent, according to a statement issued by his office.
In the statement, Stroger said the county can afford the cut because it is getting more money from President Barack Obama's stimulus package and additional state health care funding.
