Cook County Jail sees 1st swine flu case

Tribune:
The first case of H1N1 swine flu virus in Cook County Jail was confirmed today in a 35-year-old man who entered the facility Saturday on a drug charge, officials said.

He was being held in the medium-security Division 5 when he began to show symptoms on Sunday, according to a release from Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart's office.

He was put in isolation at the jail's Cermak Hospital, and Division 5 was quarantined until the test results could be confirmed. Those working and incarcerated on Division 5 have had limited movement and have been wearing surgical masks, and no one else on that tier has experienced flu-like symptoms, according to the sheriff's office.

The quarantine will be lifted Thursday, officials said, and the detainee will return to his unit on Sunday.
