Food Pantry: FACTS from St. Columbanus & St. Gelasius

From the Aldermanic Newsletter just released via e-mail:
The numbers tell the story about hunger in America and right here in Chicago. Here are all the facts:

January – December 2007
  • no. of households served: 11,638
  • no. of Individuals served: 35,946
January – December 2008
  • no. of households served: 15, 630
  • no. of Individuals served: 51,329
Total food distribution for 2007: 378,205.12 pounds
Total food distribution for 2008: 574,096.45 pounds

The increase in one year from 2007 to 2008 for households 3,992 (up approximately 35%) and for individuals 15,383 (representing an increase of 43%).

The Greater Food Depository is seeking donations to help provide families with the necessary nutrition for good health. Your contribution will go directly to helping St. Columbanus & St. Gelasius operate their Food Pantries as well as assisting the Greater Food Depository.
