At the old Kennedy King College (KKC) campus

Late last month Syron Smith of the National Block Club University basically was at the site of the old KKC campus to announce his campaign for State Rep. There were several videos of this occasion, however, I chose this one as this explains why he had his rally at the old KKC site.

The swipe was directed at the incumbent, Andre Thapedi. Thapedi is a freshman state legislator and Smith would have been his opponent had there not been any petition challenges to Smith. Well that was illustrated in a post about the NBCU a few months ago.

Anyway, this swipe revolved around the site where they held their rally. Smith specifically chose the old KKC site to illustrate what his prospective opponent wasn't doing in his brief time in office. Another man agreed (BTW fast forward at least 2 mins 25 secs into this vid for the swipe), well actually this other guy started off by saying that Smith should have been elected had he been on the ballot and then Smith mentioned the KKC campus and the condition that it's in at present. Then the guy continued after Smith broke in to say that the old KKC isn't being utilized that it could be used as a museum. And it gets worse when he says no one has heard of this Rep. Thapedi.

Well he was just across the street from that site at a protest near a nursing home just across the street from there on June 13 (according to the information provided at the flickr site) of this year with Ald. Lyle. He's in the extreme left obscured by an umbrella.
If they point to him for what he's not doing then the question would have to be what they expect him to do about the old KKC? Well I suppose one answer might be the fact that he wasn't able to secure funding to work on upkeep or indeed money for demolition since that is one reason why a TIF is being formed for this property.

I've blogged about this area on several occassions here ever since I found in the news that there was to be a formulation of a TIF for that site. I wouldn't mind if they tore down this building and open this area for commercial development. If the demolition doesn't happen and this building stays erect then what should the old KKC building be used for?
