Should Red, Orange, Yellow CTA lines be extended?

Should Red, Orange, Yellow CTA lines be extended? :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Transportation

The one aspect that I can see as positive for bringing in the Olympics are any potential projects that may come to the city's various neighborhoods. Especially transit projects around the city. I would include these various transit projects, especially the Red Line extension into the far south side from 95th. It seems to take time for any of these projects to get traction since transit agencies have to pursue government funds.

UPDATE 12:47 PM More from John Hilkevitch:
Under the plans, the Red Line would be extended to 130th Street from its current terminus at 95th Street on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

The Red Line extension, some 40 years in the making, would use Union Pacific Railroad right of way. The new train service would improve mobility for low-income residents in communities under-served by mass transit on Chicago's South Side, as well as provide a new transit option for commuters from the southern suburbs who either drive downtown or drive to Metra stations.

Extending the Red Line--a project estimated to cost more than $1 billion--would also streamline bus-to-train connections for 12 CTA bus routes and four Pace bus routes, officials said. The project could also connect the Red Line with the South Shore commuter train and Metra's proposed SouthEast Service commuter rail, officials said.
...
After approval by the CTA board, the process for all three rail-extension projects would move to carrying out environmental-impact studies required for the projects to qualify for federal grants, and a push in Congress by the Illinois delegation to win funding.
