The blog at CAPCC heralds the new AutoZone on the 8100 block of Cottage Grove and a step in the right direction for improvement of the commercial corridor on Cottage Grove.
Earlier this month I walked along Cottage Grove and saw the new AutoZone. I must say the parking lot looks very nice with some good landscaping. Probably more important it's definitely something new in the community.
While there may be a long ways to go with improving the corridor, strolling down the street (can I call it The Grove) I came to one conclusion. There are BBQ or soul food restaurants on the street and I think Cottage could be great for some outdoor dining like what can be seen in Hyde Park, South Loop, or even Lincoln Park.
Just something to consider.

Well I'm going to have to disagree with both of you. The lot is improved but I'm no fan of auto supply stores because they saturate our community and when they run into difficult times they close the stores in our community (Pep Boys, Major motors, etc). Secindly, they attract the "alley mechanic" who dispite sign in the parking lots stateing no auto repair they accost customers entering and exiting about auto repair.
ReplyDeleteWhile its better than the flea bag motel that sat on that site this not the best use but its in the 8th ward and "Strogerland" so who knows what was behind the decision.
I certainly wouldn't disagree that we could do a little better than an auto parts shop.
