Michaels Fresh Market to open in Kenwood

Perhaps another company who can bring another grocery store to the 6th Ward. Perhaps in the spot currently occupied by Family Dollar on 87th & King Drive. Especially since the Chesterfield Community Council really doesn't want them there (their Sept. 2009 newsletter 2nd page).

Tribune:
The owner of Michael's Fresh Market in Naperville plans to open a South Side supermarket in what was once an outlet store of the Hyde Park Co-op.

The 43,000 square-foot Michael's is scheduled to open next March, said George Dernis, who owns six other grocery stores in the Chicago area. The new Michael's on 47th Street in the Kenwood neighborhood originally opened as an outlet of the venerable Hyde Park Co-op in 1999.
...
The new store on 47 Street will be called Michael's Fresh Market or Michael's Marketplace in Hyde Park, Dernis said. "It's going to be state of the art," noting that it would be patterned after Michael's in Naperville. So why a Michael's on the South Side? "I just think the community is being underserved," Dernis said.
