A Costco on 84th and King Drive

CAPCC blog writes:
Would you like to see a Costco come to Chatham at the now vacant lot at 84Th Street and King Drive where the land is fenced off where a Jewel-Osco once stood?
I've written about this site before and all that could be said is not if the Park Manor Christian Church has anything to say about it. They currently own the site, although it's great to see that someone is looking at other possibilities.

  1. Well said, also the church sent out a letter spelling out their plans for the site and on the church's website they have a rendering of what they want to build.

Costco was discussed last week and we heard their response. There is a party interested in that site if the church should decide to sell. Supervalu the parent of Jewels would like to build a Save-A-Lot store there.

  2. An issue for lots of spaces where jewel or dominicks once stood is they were built with restrictive covenances for the land, meaning no other supermarket can be built on the land. It's why a lot of supermarket lots stay abandoned for so long. Alderman Flores had been working on a city council ordinance to prohibit including such a covenance, but I don't know where it stands.
It may not be the case with this site, but it's the case with a lot of jewel's abandoned on the Northwest Side.
