This year's edition will be held at Harlan on Saturday, February 27th @ 9652 S. Michigan Avenue betwee 12 Noon to 4:00 PM.
In fact there is a write-up in the Alderman's newsletter from January:
6th Ward Alderman Freddrenna M. Lyle and Lyle for Kids invites students who attend school in the 6th Ward and/or live in the 6th Ward to participate in the annual “Souls of Black Folk” Oratorical Contest. Applications will be accepted from students grades Kindergarten-12th. Students are expected to recite an original poem, short story or a published piece from memory. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Winners. Each participant will receive a certificate and Goody Bag.Anyone out there interested in going? I might attempt to make this one. Let's see what our young people can do on stage! At that get to see the NEW Harlan Community Academy!
