Another way to market our community

At least once this blog has mentioned the notion of grassroots marketing. We look at our neighbors to the west in Auburb Gresham with this YouTube slideshow looking at that neighborhood's immediate past and emerging present. You see that changes are being made in the community as we drive due west on 79th Street. One could call this gentrification for sure.

Now of course I would like to move east onto 79th into the Chatham neighborhood and if only we can witness a similar streetscape.

It might be unfair to compare Gresham to Chatham. They both have had similar stories of racial turnover. One may have had a rough racial transition while the other made a smooth one.

Well the point here is why shouldn't Chatham do something similar to what is found here for Auburn-Gresham. Chatham has a story to tell and indeed there is an agenda although we may have to figure out what that should be.

I do have my idea. The agenda should revolve around revitalization. Grassroots marketing to bring in not only national chains, but budding entrepreneurs. Those who are willing to offer products and services that are either not offered in this community, but also those that may draw in people from outside of the neighborhood.

What say you?

BTW, I found this vid via YoChicago!
