[State Rep. Monique] Davis (D-Chicago) relinquished and returned the 400-pound, $25,000 statue of an African slave to the South Side university Friday. There was a long drawn out drama over this. This statue was discovered missing in October and when school officials requested its return from Rep. Davis, she had initially refused.
"It's here in our academic library on our fourth floor -- on display," a CSU spokesman said.
Davis had kept the statue behind closed doors in her South Side district office since August.
The statue had been in storage at a CSU warehouse when a man described as Davis' boyfriend, Arnold Jordan, removed it and gave it to Davis. Jordan, who had been the director of CSU's financial aid program, said he had the permission of CSU officials to take the statue, paid for from a state grant that Davis had helped secure -- but officials could not confirm that, saying the matter is "under investigation.''
In other articles this statue was described beautifully. This sculpture was a depiction of a slave woman who also had the scars to prove it. I'm sure there are many who want to see this piece of art for themselves!
