Not to beat a deadhorse here, but I think it's necessary to find some video of this significant south side event. The failure of a well-known community bank that served those underserved neighborhoods. This is significant to this community because ShoreBank bought out the former Independence Bank in the 1990s. ShoreBank survives as Urban Partnership Bank.

This last video is from FOX Chicago with footage from the former HQ of the former Independence Bank at 7936 South Cottage Grove Avenue. There were plenty of shots of the surrounding community on Cottage Grove, especially of the boarded up buildings around that Chatham branch.

I choose to look at what is going to happen. For me some people who I consider friends and mentors will keep their jobs. Also, there are some influential African Ameicans such as Mr. McKeever a former Govornor of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and who's son is CEO of a major recording label and wife who is a major philantropic and supports several organizations in our community are now involved with the bank and can bring in some significant business as well as the bank keeps its neighborhood focus.
ReplyDeleteMany do not know that Mr. Vitale was the executive who signed off on bringing First Chicago branches to the southside when others at the bank refused, Also he has been a proponent of supporting and promoting African Americans. Several residents in our community have benefitted from his support.
Contrary to the slant some are intending to take these individuals are not outsiders coming into our commumity.
