ChathamNOW: Blog question on the next building project

Today's blog question from ChathamNOW about the old site of the Rhodes Theater:
Do you think the next new building project for Chatham should be a L.A. Fitness on the site of the former Rhodes Theater vacant lot at 79Th and Rhodes Avenue? Leave your comments on the comment line.
LA Fitness??? Whatever happened to the idea of bringing Bosse Sports to this vacant lot????

To be honest I could either support the construction of a fitness center or a community center here on this site. Of course that's not to say there isn't room for both in Chatham if possible. Although a pet idea would be to rebuild the theater even if it's not even feasible.

  1. Here we go again. Firt, I do not know why you are repeating anything this guy writes without verifying what he says. This is the same person who feels he can "gangster" the properties owned by churches (83rd King Drive&79th State)in our community for what he wants.

Yes the property is city owned but there are no immediate plans to build anything there. The department of economic development makes recommendations to the Alderman of businesses who fit the profile for a city owned lot. The recommendations made so far have fallen on death ears and LA Fitness has not been one of them.

We have to stop this madness in our neighborhood. We asked the Hall's to purchase the Clara Muhammed School building and promised we would get tenants and now we say "its your problem". This gentleman could have taken his money and invested it elsewhere. Being a fair weather community gives you a bad reputation causes disinvestment.
