FOLLOW UP: When you throw stones....

Worlee posted an earlier iteration to not only his blog and this blog on Friday, but he also posted it on both this blog's FB page and at Concerned Citizen's of Chatham. The previous flyer didn't have much in the way of details just two simple statements with regards to an abandoned apartment building that it claimed Ald. Lyle owned. This flyer provided a whole essay which was first posted at Concerned Citizens of Chatham.

You see the person who authored this flyer, claims that Ald. Lyle's late mother owned that property at 74th & Vernon. There were also some more details about this building such as the fact that there is a tree growing with in it.

Then towards the end a response to well it's up to about 6 or 7 flyers with regards to challenger Roderick Sawyer's alleged support for video gaming. The last two or so alleges that Sawyer owes $20,000 in back taxes.

This race has turned nasty!

When You Throw Stones You Got To Be Willing To Get Hit With Them

Well it appears that a Sawyer supporter has taken a page out of the SEIU playbook and decided to throw back. Attack ad wars are on, lol.

Follow-up: Wreckage - waste of a once-beautiful building

Curbed Chicago and Chicagoist got to talking about the blue "White House" replica at 8401 S. Michigan Ave. Now it's time to revisit this home that JP Paulus wrote about in May 2010 at 74th & Indiana. Worlee mentioned on at least two occasions that there were a connection between them. He especially wrote a comment about this home in JP's post:
This was a beautiful home and can be again. There is interest in the property but the last information I received was this property and the mansion at 84th michigan were tied up in an estate battle. That has been a couple of years so I do not know if it has been settled at this point.
I posted a link to this post on the FB page in December of last year and it sparked a couple of more comments in JP's post, but also on the FB page itself. And a recent comment about the blue version of the "White House" from Worlee on the page reminded me of this property. Although he used a different intersection I'm guessing he's referring to this property. He says this property and the blue "White House" are owned by the same people. Although I'm uncertain if he's referring to either the estate battle or the real estate agent who in fact owns the home near 84th & Michigan.

I would like to reiterate JP's question. At that very least what is the background of those who have owned these homes?

Chatham/Avalon Park Community Council: Blog Question

The CAPCC got the scoop on us:
Chatham/Avalon Park Community Council: Blog Question: "At a recent CAPCC Monthly Meeting it was announced that a hotel will not be built on a site in Sub-Area I. What do you think should be built? Another hotel proposal? "
What are your suggestions?

Wreckage - waste of a once-beautiful building

We previously talked about an abandoned building at 8212 S. Calumet.

Here are some photos of an abandoned home at 74th & Indiana (Northeast corner).

They include:
  • View from Indiana
  • View from Michigan
  • View of the Basement
  • View of the Garage (which has no roof)

This property at 74th & Michigan is in far worse shape than Calumet. Not only has it been stripped of walls, pipes, etc....it also seems to be missing floors. You can see sunlight from the roof from the basement.

The building has been completely gutted, and the structure as a whole is falling apart. From the basement you can see sunlight due to a hole in the roof.

From what I have seen, it just seems like a waste to even try toput it back together again (i.e. the amount of work needed to fix it). It's such a waste.

I don't want to give the impression that Chatham has become Englewood or Roseland...rather, point out a couple of issues that could be good opportunities. Gut rehabs with the gutting already done.

Anyone have any photos or other info on this house from better days?
