Miarcle League youth basketball league deadline is coming up...

Attention churches & faith based groups:

The Miracle League is a Christian summer basketball league that has been around for nearly 2 decades. It started on the North Side but now includes teams from the South and West as well. Games are played at the safe and encouraging environment of Moody Bible Institute's Solheim Center (where Bulls opponents and Rookie Training Camp have played).

Even if you don't have a formal youth program, this league can be a way to build relationships in the community. Churches could even team up and sponsor a team.

Please contact GRIP Youth ASAP if you even have an interest in forming a team.

From their web page...
Miracle Basketball League Details:

•Who: For youth in Jr. high and high school

Reload: Chicago Urban Youth Workers Conference

Reload is a one day conference. There are 80 churches within 1 mile of 79th & King, but our neighborhood's residents go to 200 (or more) churches! Many of them will be at Reload. (Churches include: Salem Baptist, Apostolic Church of God, Fellowship Missionary Baptist, Canaan Missionary Baptist, Lawndale Community Church, Christ Bible Church (formerly known as South Shore Baptist), Armitage Baptist, New Life Covenant, Oakdale Covenant, La Viitta Commnity, New Life Community, Evangel Assembly)

However, it seems like NONE of the churches in the 6th ward have come.

If you read this on Saturday, when you go to church on Sunday GRAB YOUR YOUTH MINISTER.

If you miss them on Sunday, CALL THEM ON MONDAY.

Chicago's Best Blogs

Well so far they only have five categories over at the Tribune's newest blog. Of course there is a section for best neighborhood blogs and four out of the five listed there are on the blogroll here at The Sixth Ward. Perhaps this blog or any neighborhood blog any of you readers might start could be one of those blogs on the list. It's pretty cool that the Tribune are recognizing blogs.

Chatham on Flickr

YoChicago set up this group about Chatham. Just random pics about the neighborhood and it doesn't matter if you're talking about houses or just life in the neighborhood in general. If you have a digital camera and you don't mind sharing pictures, you should sign up onto Flickr and then join this group. Especially if you're a Chatham resident.

Here's another one about West Chesterfield!

We're on Facebook!

Well, the neighborhoods of the 6th, at least, are represented on Facebook.

Chatham Neighborhood has over 55 members

Grand Crossing Neighborhood has only 5 members (none in Greater Grand Crossing)

Park Manor has just 3 people

Englewood , though a small part of the 6th, has 52 members!

Chesterfield, West Chesterfield & Roseland Heights aren't even mentioned.

There are also "groups". The Uptown neighborhood for example has at least two, as well as for Uptown Baptist Church (several different) and block clubs like Clarendon Park. The 6th ward doesn't have one specific to the area. One of the largest is calle "I was raised on the south side, therefore I am better than you." Started by white youth from the Beverly area, it has attracted people from all over the South Side, who might not think of the South Side as being "Irish" for example.

How about your neighborhood? Are you on Facebook?

How do you connect with your neighborhood online? Through Facebook? Myspace? This blog? Another blog?
