I decided to do a Technorati search on those websites that link to the official website of 6th Ward Alderman Freddrenna Lyle. Found this post from a blog, The Violence Project, talking about the murders that took place in Chatham this past spring. He gives a nice rundown of the Chatham and Park Manor neighborhoods in talking about these murders. He couldn't stress enough how he hopes this crime and others we've heard about in the news won't affect the perception of this area.
I should start a neighborhood blogroll with him. Perhaps if you're reading this blog you can start your own. Hopefully you can talk about this neighborhood and dispel some notions about people who've never visited this part of the south side.

The accounts I've read of the murders sound very much out of place in these neighborhoods. I've visited friends there. I've passed through on my bike many times. My impressions on those occasions have all been positive.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently working on route design for a bike event that I hope will change some folks' minds about riding on the south side. I would hate to see this negative publicity work against us.
