State cuts program assisting victims of domestic violence

Another line-item veto by the Governor:
After $621,300 was cut from what is known as the Displaced Homemaker program, Prairie State College in Chicago stopped offering the aid. The school is one of 10 community colleges across the state that administer the program.

Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield plans to end its involvement at the end of the year. And officials at other schools such as Harper College in Palatine say they will be forced to do the same.

The 30-year-old program assists more than 1,500 displaced women, most of them victims of domestic violence, who have lost their primary means of income.

The state House passed a bill this week that would restore funding for programs cut through the governor's line item vetoes, but it is unclear whether the state Senate will do the same.
I'm often critical of the governor on his cuts of these programs. Well I would dare say valuable programs although I'm a believer of utilizing private organizations offering a program such as this. Still there is no upside to making cuts to programs such as this, drug treatment programs or even cutting subsidies for free rides for seniors. Especially that idea was your own bright idea.
