Two males were wounded in what police initially described as a drive-by shooting around 3:15 p.m. outside public library near 79th Street and King Drive.Right in the virtual heart of the neighborhood!
One of the victims, thought to be 18, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and prononced dead about an hour later, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The Chicago fire department had described the other victim as a "young adult," but police could not provide the victims' ages.

More from WBBM-TV:
The teen taken to Christ Hospital from the King Drive shooting was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, who said the teen was unidentified at 6 p.m.Hmm about those e-mail blasts at least without having to depend on EveryBlock to get information out regarding any shootings!
Calumet Area detectives said no suspects were in custody for the murder as of 6:15 p.m.
UPDATE: Just a pic of the scene over 79th & King Drive courtesy of WLS-TV
You'll see McDonald's to the west (the sign at the bottom of the pic) and Whitney Young Library to the east (top of the pic). Of course the article added nothing, it was probably published before anyone knew that one of the shooting victims had passed away.

ReplyDeleteWow, sad, very sad. This is a fairly decent neighborhood too.
Is Christ Hospital the only one they take shooting victims too on the South Side?
The other victim in this shooting was reportedly sent to Stroger Hospital.
ReplyDeleteState Representative Andre Thapedi came to the WIM meeting yesterday and discussed his House Bill 1966 that creates a "Safe Zone" within the 60619 zip code. He intends to ban "assault weapons" in our community to quell some of this violence. He said that St. Rep. Connie Howard also supports the Bill.
ReplyDeleteWhile this may not be the sole solution, we should support what Reprentatives Thapedi and Howard are doing. We should start marching, calling the media, and doing whatever it takes to re-claim our streets.
Kudos ... St. Rep. Andre Thapedi!
